“Say what you need to say”

Words can mean
so much or so little,
like playing a tack
or playing a fiddle,
words can mean
so much or so little.

Words can seem
so big or so small,
like shopping at Cato
or going to the mall,
words can seem
so big or so small.

My Lovely Purple Shoe
With a hole at the toe
you let out my color,
you beckon and call
but not for my mother.
Your long flat body,
your sleek purple sides,
fill me with spunk
as long are my strides.

Oh, Ice Cream Sundae

You brighten up my rainy night with your pink glitter!

You look
You taste
You are

                           SO SWEET!

I feel a little guilty,
but I won’t let that stop me.

mmmm…..

               Y
                        U
                               M
                                        M
                                                Y

First Impressions

First impressions are like rough drafts;
sketches;
the first time you see a movie;
reading the back of a book;
finding a leaf in the summer.

We don’t see the finished story;
the final picture;
don’t understand the whole plot;
get the info inside;
see its other colors.

Sometimes we have to wait;
for the masterpiece;
the special features;
to meet the author;
Autumn’s appearance.

Other times we have to wad it up, toss it in the garbage and START OVER!

Ode To Chili

Difficult to spell
Leaving your mark on my shirt
Tastebuds are dancing

So Much Depends Upon…

Draft:

My Bible

Old and worn in

Given as a gift

Greets me each night

with instruction and guidance.

Revision:

My Bible

Old

and worn in

Dwells by my bedside

Given by

my Father

With love

and

hope

Draft:

So much depends upon…

My big black sunglasses

Holding back my hair

Protecting from the sun

 Revision:

So much

depends upon

My grand night sunglasses

Seizing fast my locks

Shielding

back

the

rays

Blackbeard I Poem:

I am mean and ruthless

I wonder what I will steal next

I hear the waves lapping against the Queen Anne’s Revenge

I see enemy flags in the distance

I want to loot the ship

I am mean and ruthless

I pretend I am immortal

I feel like I will never be caught

I touch treasure and get a chill

I worry that my crew will turn against me

I cry when I think about my demise

I am mean and ruthless

I understand people are looking to kill me

I say I will never surrender

I dream about living a life of luxury with my wife (number 14)

I try to enjoy the horrible food onboard my ship

I hope to become famous for my life of piracy

I am mean and ruthless

    I really like your use of font and color in your poem about your sunglasses. It creates emphasis and interest. I also thought the spacing in “My Bible” was unique. Great Job!

    Your poems are great! I like that you used spacing to add interest and that in the bible poem it looks like it is in the shape of the cross! Very creative!

    I love how you used different color font for “rays” in your sunglasses poem. I love my sunglasses and I feel like they are very important. I thought the spacing at the end really emphasized the main concept of sunglasses.
